スミレ科 (Violaceae) は被子植物門双子葉植物綱の科のひとつで、スミレ、パンジー、ニオイスミレなどを含むもの。

形態・分布

木本あるいは草本。葉は互生し托葉がある。花は左右相称または放射相称、がく・花弁（合着しない）・雄ずいが各5個、子房は多くは3心皮で側膜胎座。果実はさく果または液果。

ほぼ世界中の寒帯から熱帯に分布するコスモポリタンである。

15-20属800-900種、そのなかでスミレ属 (Viola) が最大の属で400-500種を占める。寒帯・温帯はスミレ属が圧倒的に多く、熱帯にはその他多数の属がある。3亜科に分けられ、さらに連・亜連に分けられる。
