接続詞畳用

接続詞畳用（せつぞくしちょうよう、または連辞畳用、Polysyndeton）とは、接近した連続の中で複数の接続詞が使われる修辞技法のこと。その中では省略されるものもいくつかあってもよい。（たとえば、「he ran and jumped and laughed for joy」の「for joy」）。

概略

接続詞畳用は散文のリズムを遅くするために使われ、また、その一節に厳粛な空気を付け足すこともできる。文法では、「polysyndetic coordination（接続詞畳用の等位関係）」では、すべての連言肢が「および（and）」「〜ではなくて（but）」「あるいは（or）」などの等位接続詞によって結合された等位関係である。

例

• And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

（そして地上にいたすべての生命ある存在は滅びた、人も、家畜も、這うものも、空の鳥たちも。つまりそれらはこの世から滅びた。しかしノアおよび方舟に彼とともにいたものだけは生き続けた）

接続詞畳用と対称的なのは、接続詞を含まない等位関係の「接続詞省略」、1つの接続詞だけ使う「接続詞を含んだ構文」（Syndeton, Syndetic Coordination）である。
